For many small churches to mobile churches throughout the country and Canada, the prospect of investing and installing a permanent sound system, including line arrays is simply not in the budget, or just not conducive to the realities that come with a shared space.
While there are many small format speaker options that are inexpensive on the market these days, David Leuschner explains why the element of cost should not be the final determining factor when deciding on what type of speaker should be implemented in your worship space.
When considering what will be used in the various areas, from the sanctuary to other ancillary rooms, you will have to determine whether you will need house, monitor, or fill speakers to accommodate your needs.
In addition, it’s also wise to identify what you want the speaker to accomplish, and what its intended uses would be. That will go a long way in determining what sort of speaker you will need for your worship space.
If you opt to invest in small format speakers, many of them are flush with features, but Leuschner cautions that such speakers often counterbalance their multitude of features by also often being of lesser quality, lacking in coverage and reliability, especially compared to some of the options that would be more permanent in your space.
To help determine what sort of speaker would best suit your worship space, there are professional software solutions like MAPP XT, to “map” your room via a room analysis and in the interest of confidently making the right speaker choice for your worship space, such investments go a long way in achieving that goal.
