The key to any successful organization is a strong team. It’s often the make or break of an organization. With that thought in mind, here are three C’s to developing a strong and healthy team.

If your team doesn’t feel the doors of communication are open, they will shut down and often leave you out of the loop of important issues.

C #1: Clear Boundaries

Have you ever been a part of something where everyone is doing the same thing? You end up doubling your work and become frustrated. The problem is that we often don’t sit down and make clear boundaries and direct tasks. It’s important to clarify and reclarify goals and tasks to your team. No one wants their time to be wasted. Make your goals and break down tasks from there and communicate who will take those tasks on. Whether you’re assigning day-to-day tasks or working on a big project, clear boundaries are important to maintain a healthy work environment.

C #2: Confronting Issues

“Make sure everyone in your boat is rowing and not drilling holes when you aren’t looking.” I saw this on Instagram post and it hit me like a brick. How true is that? As the leader of a team, we’re often running 90 to nothing without looking back. Unfortunately, issues are always arising. If left unhandled, those issues will act as a machine drill powering through your boat. Never leave your head in the sand when problems arise. Stop, address the situation, find a solution and keep on rowing.

C #3: Close & Honest

I once read a quote that said, “Businesses fail all the time for reasons everyone knows, but no one says anything about (those reasons).”

I imagine that is the type of team that doesn’t have a close and honest relationship. If your team doesn’t feel the doors of communication are open, they will shut down and often leave you out of the loop of important issues.

Spending time with your team and building a strong, open relationship can often be what causes your team to thrive. Let them know they can always feel comfortable in discussing even the toughest of issues.

These are just a few keys for developing a strong team. The most important aspect…pray for your team. Invest in their lives.

If you are a leader of a ministry team, you are a type of shepherd over them that should always look for ways they can develop personally. Find the gold in your team.
